Chris N, JJ, and everyone else,
It's great that ZBP logins are now displayed in a list (< ul > and < /ul >), but the list should be immediately under the number of users on ZBP (not separated by a blank line). Also, if the ZBP list is formatted as an unordered list, how about making the main site user list the same way?
Tyler
personally I find the new list annoying. It used to be I could skip past the ZBP list with a single next paragraph command. Now if I want to skip past it quickly I have to use a next combo box command. But... I guess I do understand why it was done that way.
I love the list, means I can skip the user log in list, streight to zbp, though I wonder why we don't have the user log in as a list also, with cl's and admins as sublists.
Nehemiah, why don't you jump by heading streight to qn or beyond, if you don't wish to read the list?
i actually have all of my lists turned off because i hated skipping past them just to get to the qn's
I've updated the site users list to match the phone users list.
can we please get rid of the bullet points? it takes jaws two syllables just to say bullet.
There is no way that I know of, using HTML or otherwise, to make an unordered list without bullet points, unless it's a particular value of the ul tag's type attribute that I'm not thinking of.
Tyler
The website users lists are visually similar to the previous method of showing users, and do not include bullets. I consider the fact that JAWS announces "bullet" when a bullet is not present to be a bug and encourage people to visit www.freedomscientific.com and contact the company if they feel likewise. One solution would be for an option to be added to JAWS which would provide a toggle for announcing bullets. A much better option would be to have a more configurable method for identifying the beginning and end of individual list elements. I've glanced through the Verbosity and HTML Settings options, and if either of these solutions already exists, it wasn't terribly obvious.
There are several ways, actually. If our bullets are visually hidden, then we know of at least Jaws and Supernova that are having problems with this.
I like it except for one thing. why is the main users list classed as list 1.1? I'd think this would just be list 1, and then if you had cl's admin, you could then have those as list 1.1 and 1.2. as cl's and admins would be sub ists of the original list, as they are still users.
and just to irritate people, Windoweyes doesn't think any of this is bulleted, so thank you both admins.
I don't see the bullets anymore and I am using jaws.
Well I wasn't around when the list originally changed and I'm not entirely clear on the reason for the revamp or the issue most of you may have been having with Jaws and other screen readers' compatibility but ...
As a non-screen reader user, the new format for the logged-in users list is very cumbersome. All I see when go to the main page is a long, single-column list and I have to scroll down in order to get to the login section. Previously it was a continuous list in one paragraph, which was better for layout and wasn't cluttered because there was enough space between each user's name to distinguish.
If the new format is easier for the vast majority of the site's users then I'm happy to live with it, but from a visual appearance (and partially-sighted user's) point of view, it is less aesthetic and slightly harder to navigate.
I have to agree with dusty here. Visually, the new formatting is horrible and takes up entirely too much space.
Well, with a screen reader, it is in some ways nice for navigation. it wil make it easier to jump to the list of cl's and admins when they are logged in, and also to jump streight to the zbp list, but I still find it weird that the main list of users is 1.1 andnot simply 1, it means extra keystrokes to get to the list itself.
Does anyone think the login and ZBP lists would look better in table format rather than list format?
ZBP might, but not the login list because the login list does not show connected time. ZBP lists show ZBP connected time, so table format might work better for that.
